As the Dīrghāgama states: What is the cause and condition for there being five kinds of seeds in the world? There is a great turbulent wind that blows seeds from indestructible worlds to be born in this land. The first is root-seeds; the second is stem-seeds; the third is joint-seeds; the fourth is hollow-stem seeds; the fifth is seed-seeds. These are the five kinds of seeds that arise in the world.
