問地獄經云。十八王者。即主領十八地獄。一迦延典泥犁。二屈遵典刀山。三沸進壽典沸沙。四沸典沸屎。五迦世典黑耳。六𡻘嵯典火車。七湯謂典鑊湯。八鐵迦然典鐵床。九惡生典𡻘山。十寒氷（經闕王名）。十一毘迦典剝皮。十二遙頭典畜生。十三提薄典刀兵。十四夷大典鐵磨。十五悅頭典水地獄。十六鐵[竺-二+冊]（經闕王名）。十七身典𦚭蟲。十八觀身典洋銅。又淨度三昧經云。復有三十地獄。各有主典不煩具錄。但列五官名字者。一者鮮官禁殺。二者水官禁盜。三者鐵官禁婬。四者土官禁兩舌。五者天官禁酒。

The Sūtra on Inquiring about the Hells says: 'The eighteen kings preside over the eighteen hells. The first, Jiāyán, oversees Niraya; the second, Qūzūn, oversees the Knife Mountain; the third, Fèijìnshòu, oversees Boiling Sand; the fourth, Fèi, oversees Boiling Excrement; the fifth, Jiāshì, oversees Black Ear; the sixth, Cuō, oversees the Fire Cart; the seventh, Tāngwèi, oversees the Boiling Cauldron; the eighth, Tiějiārán, oversees the Iron Bed; the ninth, Èshēng, oversees the Cliff Mountain; the tenth, [oversees] Cold Ice (the sūtra lacks the king's name); the eleventh, Píjiā, oversees Skinning; the twelfth, Yáotóu, oversees Animals; the thirteenth, Tíbó, oversees Weapons; the fourteenth, Yídà, oversees the Iron Mill; the fifteenth, Yuètóu, oversees the Water Hell; the sixteenth, [oversees] Iron Pikes (the sūtra lacks the king's name); the seventeenth, Shēn, oversees Maggots; the eighteenth, Guānshēn, oversees Molten Copper.' Furthermore, the Sūtra on the Samādhi of Pure Deliverance says: 'There are also thirty hells, each with an overseer; they are not fully recorded here to avoid tediousness. Only the names of the Five Officials are listed: first, the Fresh Official, who prohibits killing; second, the Water Official, who prohibits stealing; third, the Iron Official, who prohibits sexual misconduct; fourth, the Earth Official, who prohibits malicious speech; fifth, the Celestial Official, who prohibits alcohol.'
