70.17

又緣其惡口言輒浮綺。都無義益。無義益故今身則生憍慢。死即當墮束縛地獄。於遐劫中受諸苦惱。受苦既畢墮畜生中。唯念水草不識父母恩養。在此之中無量生死。以本因緣。若遇微善。劣復人身。生在邊地。不知忠孝仁義。不見三寶。若在中國。矬陋短矮。人所凌蔑。當知憍慢皆緣無義調戲不節。

Furthermore, because of harsh speech, one's words are always frivolous and ornamental, entirely without beneficial meaning. Because they lack beneficial meaning, in the present life arrogance arises. Upon death, one will fall into the Hell of Binding, undergoing various pains and afflictions for distant kalpas. Once this suffering has ended, one falls among animals, thinking only of water and grass, oblivious to the kindness and nurture of parents, undergoing immeasurable births and deaths therein. By the original cause, if one encounters slight goodness, one may barely regain a human body, but one will be born in the borderlands, ignorant of loyalty, filial piety, benevolence, and righteousness, and unable to see the Three Jewels. Or if born in the central realm, one will be short, ugly, and stunted, despised and insulted by people. One should know that arrogance is entirely due to meaningless, unrestrained mockery and teasing.
