汝等勿抱死屍臥　種種不淨假名人
如得重病箭入身　諸苦痛集安可眠
如人被縛將去殺　災害垂至安可眠
結賊不滅害未除　如共毒蛇同室宿
亦如臨陣白刃間　爾時云何而可眠
眠為大暗無所見　日日欺誑奪人明
以眠覆心無所見　如是大失安可眠

Do not lie down embracing a corpse, / Various impurities conventionally termed a person! / Like one with a serious illness or an arrow entering the body, / When all pains gather, how can you sleep? / Like a person bound and led to be executed, / When disaster is imminent, how can you sleep? / When the thieves of defilement are not destroyed and harm is not removed, / It is like lodging in the same room with a venomous snake, / Or like facing the battle line amid naked blades; / At such a time, how can you sleep? / Sleep is a great darkness in which nothing is seen; / Day after day it deceives and robs people of their clarity. / Because sleep covers the mind so nothing is seen, / In such great loss, how can you sleep?
