81.61

又十住毘婆沙論云。在家菩薩所貪惜物。若有乞人急從求索。汝以此物施與我者。速得成佛。菩薩即應思惟。若我今者不捨此物。此物必當遠離於我。設至死時不隨我去。此物則是遠離之相。今為發菩提故須施與。後死時心無有悔。必生善處。是得大利。若猶貪者應辭謝乞者言。勿生瞋恨。我新發意善根未具。於菩薩行法未得勢力。是以未能捨於此物。後得勢力。善根堅固。當以相與。

Furthermore, the Daśabhūmika-vibhāṣā says: If there is an object that a lay bodhisattva is attached to and begrudges, and a beggar urgently seeks it from them, saying, 'If you give this object to me, you will quickly achieve buddhahood,' the bodhisattva should reflect: 'If I do not renounce this object now, this object will surely depart from me. Even if I reach death, it will not follow me; this object is of a nature that departs. Now, for the sake of bringing forth bodhi, I must give it away. Later, at the time of death, my mind will have no regret, and I will surely be born in a good realm; this is obtaining great benefit.' If they are still attached, they should apologize to the beggar, saying: 'Do not give rise to anger and hatred. I have newly brought forth the intention, and my roots of goodness are not yet complete; I have not yet gained strength in the practices of a bodhisattva, and therefore I am not yet able to renounce this object. Later, when I gain strength and my roots of goodness are firm, I will certainly give it to you.'
