二者悔罪要方慚愧為本。我慚此罪不復人流。愧我此罪不蒙天護。是為白法。亦是三乘行人第一義天。出世白法。是為懺愧翻破無愧之黑法也。要具此心方能行懺後條例耳。

Second is that shame and conscience are fundamental as the essential method for repenting of sins. I feel shame regarding these sins, [unfit to be] counted among human ranks; I feel conscience regarding these sins, not receiving the protection of heaven. These are the white phenomena, and they are also the supreme heaven of truth for practitioners of the three vehicles, the transcendental white phenomena. This is repentance and conscience overturning and breaking through the black phenomena of shamelessness. One must possess this mind before one can carry out the subsequent articles of repentance.
