又增一阿含經云。若善男子善女人。欲得八關齋離諸苦者。得盡諸漏入涅槃城。當求方便成此八齋。人中榮位不足為貴。天上快樂不可稱計。欲求無上之福者。當求此齋。欲生六欲天色無色界天者。當持此齋。欲求一方二方三方四方天子轉輪聖王位者。亦獲其願。欲求聲聞緣覺佛乘者。悉成其願。吾今成就由其持戒五戒十善無願不獲。

Furthermore, the Ekottarika-āgama states: "If a good man or good woman wishes to attain the eightfold fast to be freed from all sufferings, to extinguish all defilements, and to enter the city of nirvāṇa, they should seek expedients to accomplish this eightfold fast. Glory and rank among humans are not worth valuing, and the pleasures of the heavens are beyond measure. Those who seek supreme blessings should seek this fast; those who wish to be born in the six heavens of the desire realm, or the heavens of the form and formless realms, should uphold this fast; those who seek the rank of divine prince or wheel-turning sage king of one, two, three, or four directions will also obtain their wish; those who seek the vehicle of the śrāvaka, pratyekabuddha, or Buddha will have all their wishes fulfilled. My accomplishment today was due to upholding the precepts; with the five precepts and ten virtues, there is no wish that is not obtained."
