如薩婆多論云。若人欲受八戒。先自恣女色。或作音樂。或貪飲食種種戲笑。如是放逸盡心故作。然後受戒。不問中前中後皆不得戒。若無本心受戒。種種放逸。後遇知識即為受戒。不問中前中後並得成受。

As the Sarvāstivāda-śāstra states: If a person wishes to receive the eight precepts, but first indulges in female sexuality, or makes music, or craves food and drink and various amusements—being heedless in this way, doing so deliberately with all his heart—and then receives the precepts, whether before midday or after midday, he does not obtain the precepts. If he had no initial intention to receive the precepts and engaged in various heedless acts, but later encountered a spiritual friend and immediately received the precepts from him, then whether before midday or after midday, the reception is successfully accomplished in both cases.
