如薩婆多論云。問七眾外有木叉戒不。答八戒是。以此義推受八戒人。不入七眾攝。若知位處應在五戒優婆塞上坐。以受戒多故。故智度論。將八戒譬於健將。

As the Sarvāstivāda-śāstra states: 'Question: Outside the seven assemblies, are there prātimokṣa precepts or not? Answer: The eight precepts are.' Inferring from this principle, a person who receives the eight precepts is not included within the seven assemblies. If one considers their place, they should sit above upāsakas of the five precepts, because they have received more precepts. Therefore the Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra compares the eight precepts to a valiant general.
