If a disciple of the Buddha is stingy oneself, encourages someone to be stingy; through the causes of stinginess, the karma of stinginess, the methods of stinginess, or the conditions of stinginess. When a bodhisattva sees any poor person who comes begging, one gives everything according to what that person needs. Yet if the bodhisattva, with an evil mind and an angry mind, does not bestow even a single coin, a single needle, or a single blade of grass; and when there is one seeking the Dharma, does not expound for them a single phrase, a single verse, or a Dharma even as tiny as a speck of dust, but on the contrary scolds and insults them, this is the bodhisattva's eighth pārājika offense. If a disciple of the Buddha is angry oneself, encourages someone to be angry; through the causes of anger, the karma of anger, the methods of anger, or the conditions of anger. A bodhisattva should generate within all sentient beings roots of goodness and non-contentious matters, constantly giving rise to compassion. If, on the contrary, toward all sentient beings and even non-sentient beings, one scolds and insults them with evil words, strikes them with hands, as well as with swords and staves, yet the intention does not cease; and even when the other person seeks to repent and confesses with wholesome words, one's anger remains unresolved, this is the bodhisattva's ninth pārājika offense.
