爾時天子說此偈已。以種種華散太子上。即還本宮。爾時太子即初就學。將好最妙牛頭栴檀作於書版。純用七寶莊嚴四緣。以天種種殊特妙香塗其背上。執持至於毘奢蜜多羅阿闍梨所。而作是言。尊者闍梨教我何書（自下太子廣為說書）。

At that time, having spoken this gāthā, the devaputra scattered various flowers over the prince and returned to his original palace. At that time the prince began his studies. He took the finest and most wondrous gośīrṣa-candana sandalwood to make a writing board, adorned on its four borders purely with the seven treasures, and anointed on its back with diverse extraordinary divine perfumes. Holding it, he went to the ācārya Viśvāmitra and said: "Venerable ācārya, what script will you teach me?" (Hereafter, the prince expounds on scripts at length.)
