爾時世尊復告僧護。汝見第一柱者。實非是柱。是地獄人。迦葉佛時。是出家人。寺中常住破佛剎柱為己私用。故入地獄。作大肉柱火燒受苦。至今不息。

At that time, the World-Honoured One again addressed Saṃgharakṣita: 'The first pillar you saw was not truly a pillar; it is a denizen of hell. In the time of Kāśyapa Buddha, he was a monastic. Living permanently in the monastery, he broke down the stūpa pillars of the Buddha for his own private use. Therefore, he entered hell, where he became a great flesh pillar burned by fire, suffering pain without respite even to this day.
