汝見二沙彌者。是地獄人。迦葉佛時。是出家人。共一被褥相抱眠臥。故入地獄。火燒被褥中相抱受苦。至今不息。

The two novices you saw are denizens of hell. In the time of Kāśyapa Buddha, they were monastics. Sharing a single quilt and mat, they slept embracing each other. Therefore, they entered hell, where amidst bedding burned by fire they embrace each other and suffer pain, without respite even to this day.
