汝見二比丘者。是地獄人。迦葉佛時。是出家人。於大眾中鬪諍相打。故入地獄。猛火焚身受相打苦。至今不息。

The two monks you saw are denizens of hell. In the time of Kāśyapa Buddha, they were monastics. In the midst of the great assembly they quarreled and struck each other. Therefore, they entered hell, where raging flames incinerate their bodies and they suffer the pain of beating each other, without respite even to this day.
