93.16

又十住婆沙論。問曰。若有人捨施酒。未知得罪以不。答曰。施者得福。受者不得飲。故論云。是菩薩或時樂捨一切。須食與食。須飲與飲。若以酒施。應生是念。今是行檀時。隨所須與。後當方便教使離酒。得念智慧令不放逸。何以故。檀波羅蜜法悉滿人願。在家菩薩以酒施者。是則無罪。

Furthermore, the *Daśabhūmika-vibhāṣā* asks: "If someone gives liquor as charity, is it known whether they incur guilt or not?" The answer says: "The giver gains merit; the recipient must not drink it. Therefore the treatise says: 'This bodhisattva sometimes delights in giving everything away: giving food when food is needed, giving drink when drink is needed. If giving with liquor, one should generate this thought: "Now is the time for practicing dāna; I give according to what is needed. Later, through skillful means, I shall instruct them to abandon liquor, obtain mindfulness and wisdom, and be free from heedlessness." Why is this? The dharma of dāna-pāramitā completely fulfills people's wishes. When a lay bodhisattva gives liquor, this is without guilt.'"
