又五分律云。若月直監食人。欲知生熟鹹酢。得貯掌中舌舐甞之（齊法經不許口嘗者為無好心貪心嘗故犯）。

The Mahīśāsaka-vinaya also says: "If the person on monthly duty supervising food wishes to know whether it is raw or cooked, salty or sour, they may hold it in the palm of their hand and taste it with their tongue." (The *Qifa jing* does not permit tasting with the mouth because doing so with an unwholesome or greedy mind is an offense.)
