Having finished circumambulating, they then bow to the assembly and to the two masters. Afterwards, sitting in the lower row, they receive bows from the six relations. Bearing the resolve to leave the household and depart from the secular, their mind is filled with joy. Parents and all kin pay homage to them, rejoicing in their aspiration for the Way. It is best to shave the hair before noon, so as to be in time for the midday meal. According to the Vinayamātṛkā-śāstra: 'After shaving the hair and donning the kāṣāya, the upādhyāya then confers the three refuges, the five precepts, and so forth.' (The remaining ritual procedures cannot be fully detailed; one should deliberate according to the circumstances so that generating wholesome merit is paramount.)
