"Sixth vow: May it be that when I become a Buddha, if among the devas and humans of the countless Buddha-lands in the eight directions, above and below, there are good sons or good daughters who wish to come and be born in my land and on my account multiply their good deeds—whether giving in charity, circumambulating stūpas, burning incense, scattering flowers, lighting lamps, hanging assorted silken banners, offering food to śramaṇas, building stūpas and constructing temples, severing craving and desire, keeping the fasts and precepts purely, and single-mindedly being mindful of me day and night without interruption—may they all be caused to come and be born in my land as bodhisattvas. If I obtain this vow, only then will I become a Buddha; if I do not obtain this vow, I will never become a Buddha.
