The Buddha told Ānanda: 'When Amitābha Buddha was a bodhisattva, he practiced these twenty-four vows, never violating the Dharma, entirely renouncing wealth and sensual desires, seeking his vows with diligence and clarity, and accumulating merit and virtues over innumerable kalpas. Now having attained Buddhahood, he has fully realized all of them; his efforts were not in vain.'
