If a bodhisattva, directed toward the Tathāgata and caityas not in presence, as well as after the nirvāṇa, erects stūpas with the Buddha's śarīra—whether one, two, or up to millions or billions, according to one's capacity—this is termed an extensive offering not in presence. Due to these causes and conditions, one attains immeasurably great fruits, constantly gathers the merit of Brahmā, does not fall into bad destinies for immeasurable great kalpas, and fulfills all the requisites for unexcelled bodhi. If a bodhisattva makes offerings in presence, they obtain great merit; if they make offerings not in presence, they obtain great merit; if they make offerings both in presence and not in presence, they obtain the greatest and most immense merit.
