The Buddha told the monks: "There are four things in the world that cannot be obtained. What are the four? First: to be young, with a radiant complexion, black hair, white teeth, glowing appearance, robust strength, walking and moving, coming and going at ease, mounting chariots and riding horses, looked up to and revered by all, loved and respected by everyone—yet suddenly one day becoming decrepit and old, with white hair and fallen teeth, a wrinkled face and loose skin, a heavy body leaning on a staff, short of breath and groaning: wishing to be constantly young and not reach old age is utterly unattainable.
