First, abiding peacefully in proper conduct; second, practicing in the sphere of loving-kindness; third, free from all remorse and burning anguish; fourth, guarding the senses; fifth, obtaining the joyful bliss of food; sixth, staying far away from desire; seventh, cultivating dhyāna not in vain; eighth, liberated from Māra's snare; ninth, abiding peacefully in the realm of the Buddha; tenth, liberation matures." Furthermore, the Buddha said: "If a bodhisattva delights in dhūta and begging for food, there are ten kinds of benefits. What are the ten? First, toppling the banner of arrogance; second, not seeking affection; third, not acting for fame; fourth, abiding in the noble lineage; fifth, not being flattering, deceitful, displaying unusual manners, or arrogant; sixth, not exalting oneself; seventh, not denigrating others; eighth, severing desire and malice; ninth, if entering the homes of people, not practicing the gift of Dharma for the sake of drink and food; tenth, when preaching the Dharma, it is believed and accepted by others."'
