The commentary says: Since the bodhisattva can thus firmly maintain the prohibitive precepts and attain the non-regressing fruit, I now urge both monastics and laity who are capable of aspiring [to this] to receive the Three Cumulative Pure Precepts, the Ten Inexhaustible Precepts, the Twenty-Four Precepts, and all the various precepts for lay and monastic, such as the two hundred and fifty precepts and the five hundred precepts. If one can perfectly protect all of them, one is a true disciple of the Buddha, opening the gate of Buddha-nature and entering the path of nirvāṇa.
