If a disciple of the Buddha tells falsehoods oneself, encourages someone to tell falsehoods, tells falsehoods by expedient means; through the causes of false speech, the karma of false speech, the methods of false speech, or the conditions of false speech; down to saying one has seen what one has not seen, or saying one has not seen what one has seen, speaking falsely in body and mind. Yet a bodhisattva constantly gives rise to right speech, and also causes sentient beings to generate right speech and right view. If, on the contrary, one stirs up wrong speech, wrong view, and wrong karma in all sentient beings, this is the bodhisattva's fourth pārājika offense.
