If a disciple of the Buddha engages in sexual misconduct oneself, encourages someone to engage in sexual misconduct, or down to [misconduct with] all women—one must not intentionally engage in sexual misconduct: through the causes of sexual misconduct, the karma of sexual misconduct, the methods of sexual misconduct, or the conditions of sexual misconduct, down to female animals, female devas, ghosts, and spirits, as well as engaging in sexual misconduct in unnatural orifices. Yet a bodhisattva ought to give rise to a filial and obedient mind to deliver all sentient beings and bestow pure dharmas upon people. If, on the contrary, one stirs up sexual desire in all people, without discriminating even animals, and down to mother, sisters, and the six relations, engaging in sexual misconduct without compassion, this is the bodhisattva's third pārājika offense.
