"Liquor is the root of heedlessness;
Not drinking closes the evil destinies.
I would rather give up hundreds of thousands of bodies
Than violate the teachings of the Dharma.
I would rather let my body wither away
Than ever drink this liquor.
Even if by violating the precepts
One's lifespan reached a full hundred years,
It would not be as good as protecting the prohibitive precepts
Though one's body be destroyed immediately.
Even if it were certain to bring a cure,
I would still not drink it;
How much more so now, when it is not known with certainty
Whether it will bring a cure or not!
Forming such a resolute determination,
Great joy arises in the mind;
One immediately attains insight into the true reality,
And one's ailment is instantly eliminated."
