Ning Fengzi was a man of the Yellow Emperor's time. Tradition has it that he was the Yellow Emperor's master of pottery. A man met him and tended the kiln fire for him, being able to move in and out of the five-colored smoke. After a long time, he taught this to Fengzi. Fengzi heaped up fire and burned himself, rising and falling along with the smoke. Looking into the charcoal and ashes, his bones were still there. People of the time buried them together in the mountains north of Ning; hence he was called Master Ning Feng. (This single proof is from the Soushen ji.)
