Furthermore, because of theft, one's mind is unchaste and upright, indulging in lust and debauchery. If in this life one is lustful and debauched, in this present existence one meets danger and ruin, living in constant terror. Or, when discovered by the husband or his associates, one immediately incurs calamity: knives and clubs are applied to one's body, head and feet are severed, even to the loss of life. Upon death, one enters the hells, lying on iron beds or embracing copper pillars, while the hell wardens light fires to burn one's body. When the punishment in the hells is finished, one will be reborn among animals: chickens, ducks, birds, sparrows, dogs, pigs, and moths—undergoing immeasurable births and deaths such as these, experiencing myriad sufferings and afflictions throughout distant kalpas. When the suffering is finished, by virtue of one's fundamental causes and conditions, if one encounters slight good, one may feebly regain a human body, but one's inner chambers will be wanton and disorderly, one's wives and concubines unchaste; if one has a beloved, they will be seized by others. One constantly harbors terror, with much danger and little peace. One should know that danger and suffering all arise from sexual misconduct.
