Furthermore, the Chizuiwu yu jing says: Formerly there was a crow named Kaukkika (in the language of Liang, 'red-billed crow') that lived in a grove of trees and gave birth to young. Her chicks were in the tree. At that time, Kaukkika had a close friendship with a monkey. In the grove there was a poisonous snake, which watched until she went away and then devoured Kaukkika's chicks without leaving any behind. Having lost her chicks, Kaukkika wept and cried aloud, not knowing where they were. Thinking carefully, she realized they had been devoured by the snake. When the monkey returned and saw her, he asked what had happened. She replied: 'A snake devoured my chicks completely, leaving none behind.' The monkey said: 'I shall avenge them.' When the poisonous snake was moving, the monkey went forward and provoked it. Enraged, the snake coiled around the monkey. The monkey seized its head, dragged it onto a rock, smashed it to death, threw it aside, and returned. Kaukkika leaped with joy. Even beasts avenge one another, how much more so humans!
