Seventh, explaining that all sentient beings cherish their own lives no differently from oneself. Therefore, practitioners should not eat meat. As that sūtra says: 'Eating meat can give rise to physical strength and a craving for taste, which people mostly covet. One should attentively contemplate that all living beings in the world, each treasuring their own lives, fear the suffering of death; in guarding and cherishing their own bodies, humans and beasts are no different. They would rather cheerfully remain in the body of a mangy jackal than give up their lives to enjoy celestial pleasures. Why is this? Because they fear the suffering of death. Contemplating this, death is great suffering; it is a fearful thing. Since one's own body fears death, how could one kill and eat the flesh of another? Therefore, Mahāmati, one who wishes to eat meat should first reflect on their own body, then observe other sentient beings; they should not eat meat.'
