又中阿含經云。爾時世尊告諸比丘。過去世時釋提桓因。每入園觀。時勅御者。令嚴駕千馬之車。嚴駕已竟唯王知時。時天帝釋即下常勝殿。東向合掌禮佛。爾時御者見則心驚毛竪。馬鞭落地。帝釋見已即說偈言。
Furthermore, the Madhyama-āgama says: At that time, the Bhagavat told the bhikṣus: In a past age, whenever Śakra Devānām Indra entered the garden for sightseeing, he would command his charioteer to harness a chariot of a thousand horses. When the harnessing was completed, [the charioteer reported,] 'Only the King knows the time.' At that time Śakra Devānām Indra stepped down from the Hall of Victory, faced east with joined palms, and paid homage to the Buddha. At that time, the charioteer saw this, and his heart was terrified and his hair stood on end, dropping the horse whip to the ground. Seeing this, Śakra immediately spoke a verse:
