9.41

復有一鬼言。我常有七枚熱鐵丸。直入我口。入腹五藏燋爛。出復還入。何因故受此罪。目連答言。汝前世時作沙彌。行果苽子到自師所。敬其師故偏心多與。實長七枚。故受此苦。

Yet another ghost said, 'I always have seven hot iron pellets that go straight into my mouth. Entering my belly, they scorch and rot my five viscera; having exited, they enter again. For what cause do I suffer this retribution?' Maudgalyāyana answered, saying, 'In your past life you were a śrāmaṇera. When distributing melon seeds, you reached your own master's place. Out of respect for your master, you were biased and gave him more, actually seven extra seeds. Therefore you suffer this pain.'
