Alas! Deluded people have heavy obstacles; discarding the three carriages, they do not drive them. Drifting and sinking in the sea of suffering, they let themselves be scorched and rotted without wearying of it. They are like flies delighting in foul corpses, like flying moths throwing themselves into heaps of fire. This is truly because they are confused about causes and mistaken about effects, not recognizing good and evil. Therefore, they delight in creating the causes of suffering, generating karma in accord with conditions, experiencing every hardship, and fully undergoing devastation; to this day, they are boiled and burned without knowing any respite. The Tathāgata, in his great compassion, cannot bear to abandon them forever; he reveals suffering and bliss to them, causing them to generate joy and revulsion.
