The second intermediate state: If a person of Jambudvīpa dies and is born in Uttarakuru, they see a lovely color of fine, soft, red wool. They immediately generate craving and grasp it with their hands, raising their hands to catch it as if catching empty space; their relatives say that the two hands are groping at the void. Furthermore, a wind blows. If this sick person is in the cold of winter, a warm wind comes blowing to dispel their suffering from the cold; if in the heat of summer, a cool wind comes blowing to dispel their stifling steam, causing the mind to be joyful. Because the mind is focused on this, they do not hear the sounds of lamentation and weeping. If their karma shifts, their mind also shifts; hearing the mournful sounds, the wind blows them to be born in another place. Therefore, when relatives weep at the approach of death, it is a great hindrance. If there is no hindrance, they will be born in Uttarakuru. In between, wholesome signs sequentially appear: they see a pond of blue lotuses filled with geese, ducks, and mandarin ducks, and immediately run toward it to enter and play within it. When about to enter the mother's womb, they emerge from the flower pond and walk on dry land. They see the parents uniting in lustful defilement, relying on impurity. Due to inverted views, they see the father's body as a gander and the mother as a goose. If to be born as a male, he sees his own body as that of a gander; if to be born as a female, she sees her own body as that of a goose. If a male is born, he gives rise to aversion toward the father and love toward the mother; if a female is born, she gives rise to love toward the father and aversion toward the mother. This is called the second intermediate state of being born in Uttarakuru.
