Furthermore, the Ekottarika-āgama says: The Bhagavat addressed the bhikṣus: 'I shall now speak of the four types of Brahmā-merit. What are the four? First, if there is a faithful good man or good woman who can erect a stūpa where one was never erected before; second, repairing an old monastery; third, bringing harmony to the Saṃgha; fourth, when a Tathāgata first turns the wheel of the Dharma, the devas and people of the world beseech him to turn the wheel of the Dharma. These are called the four kinds of merits that receive the state of Brahmā.' The bhikṣus said to the Bhagavat: 'Just how great is the merit of the Brahmā heaven?' The Bhagavat told them: 'The merit possessed by all sentient beings in the land of Jambudvīpa is exactly equal to the merit of one wheel-turning king. The virtue of the people of Jambudvīpa and of one wheel-turning king is equal to the merit of a single person in Godānīya. The merit of the two regions of Jambudvīpa and Godānīya is still not equal to the merit of a single person in Pūrvavideha. The merit of the people of those three regions is not equal to the merit of a single person in Uttarakuru. The merit of the people of the four continents is not equal to the merit of the Four Heavenly Kings. Up to: the merit of the people of the four continents and the six heavens of the desire realm is not equal to the merit of a single Brahmā king. If there are good men or good women who seek such merit, this is its measure.'
