Furthermore, because of their harsh speech, their words are invariably ornate and flirtatious, devoid of any meaningful benefit. Being devoid of meaningful benefit, arrogance arises in their present life, and upon death they will fall into the Hell of Binding. For long kalpas they suffer various afflictions. When this suffering is ended, they fall among animals, where they think only of water and grass, not knowing the debt of gratitude for the nurturing care of their parents. Within this they undergo immeasurable cycles of birth and death. By virtue of their fundamental causes and conditions, if they encounter slight goodness, they barely regain a human body, but are born in peripheral regions, ignorant of loyalty, filial piety, benevolence, and righteousness, and never seeing the Triratna. If born in the central realm, they are dwarfed, ugly, crippled, and hunched, despised by others. One should know that arrogance always arises from meaningless banter and unrestrained frivolity.
