Therefore the Bodhisattvabhūmi says: The sin of wrong views also causes sentient beings to fall into the three evil destinies. If born among humans, they receive two kinds of retribution: first, being born into a family with wrong views; second, their minds are crooked and deceitful. Why do wrong views lead to falling into hell? Because through wrong views they only turn toward deviant paths, and along with spirits and commoners they slander the Buddha, Dharma, and Saṅgha, not revering the Triratna; since they do not revere or believe in it, they cut off people's correct path, causing them to encounter suffering; therefore, at the end of life they enter the Avīci Hell. Why do wrong views further lead to becoming an animal? Because through wrong views they did not recognize correct principles; therefore, emerging from hell they receive the retribution of an animal. Why do wrong views further lead to becoming a hungry ghost? Because through these wrong views their stingy minds are firmly attached, perverse and unyielding; not abandoning their stinginess and attachments, they become hungry ghosts. Why do wrong views cause one to be born into a family with wrong views? Because through these wrong views perverse habits entangle the mind; therefore, born as a human, they are born into a family with wrong views. Why do wrong views cause their minds to be crooked and deceitful? Because through these wrong views they are not upright and correct; therefore, born as a human, their minds are constantly crooked and deceitful. One should know that wrong views bring about the tenth great suffering.
