The Riyun jing also states: "Leaving incense on the ground before the smoke has finished incurs an infraction of discarding (duskṛta). For five hundred years one falls into the excrement hell. Why? Because it arises from a careless and undisciplined mind." The Yewen jing also states: "One who adorns offering implements and blows away the ashes with the mouth falls into the Utpala Hell; as secondary retribution, one becomes a wind-spirit king." The Yaoyongzui jing also states: "One who smells incense with the nose loses its merit because of diminishing the fragrance; the primary retribution is falling into the Padma Hell, and in future lives the olfactory organ will perceive neither fragrance nor flavor." The Ritiangongyang jing also states: "When making offerings, if the incense is not covered, one falls into the dark excrement hell, enduring suffering for half a kalpa, and receives the retribution of having neither faith nor wisdom. Why? Because downward wind rises and pollutes the incense." (Although the three sūtras above are not listed in the catalogues, they were all received through resonance with worthy sages, and are therefore recorded separately here.)
