"The south refers to teachers and elders. If someone can make offerings to teachers and elders of clothing, food and drink, bedding, and medicine, respecting, praising, reverently bowing to, and venerating them, rising early and sleeping late, and accepting and practicing their good teachings, this person can make offerings to the teachers and elders of the south. These teachers reciprocate with five things: first, teaching quickly without letting them miss the proper time; second, teaching completely without leaving anything unexhausted; third, not giving rise to jealousy when [the student] surpasses oneself; fourth, entrusting them to strict teachers and good friends; fifth, relinquishing their property to them at the time of death.
