As the Bodhisattvabhūmi-śāstra says: The bodhisattva's offerings to the Tathāgata are, in brief, of ten kinds: first, offerings to the body; second, offerings to the caitya; third, offerings in presence; fourth, offerings in absence; fifth, offerings made by oneself; sixth, offerings made by others; seventh, offerings of material goods; eighth, superior offerings; ninth, untainted offerings; and tenth, offerings of the path of attainment. If a bodhisattva makes offerings to the physical form of the Buddha, this is called offerings to the body. If a bodhisattva, for the sake of the Tathāgata, makes offerings to stūpas, caves, or shrines, whether old or new, this is called offerings to the caitya.
