肇法師云。雖解深義。未為心用。尊己慢人。不能誨益此學者之外患也。因其所解。而取相分別。雖曰為解。未合真解。此學者之內患也。

Dharma Master [Seng]zhao said: 'Although one understands profound meanings, they have not yet been internalized for mental cultivation; honoring oneself and disdaining others, one cannot instruct or benefit them—this is the scholar's external affliction. Relying on one's understanding, one grasps characteristics and makes discriminations; although called understanding, it does not accord with true understanding—this is the scholar's internal affliction.'
