毘陵郡牧職方外郎崔公智識囦博才雅精粹乃作字引辭旨妙絕幸獲捧覽讚歎無㪤宜其鏤板傳諸不杇聊笔編未冀翼而行之云爾天聖甲子歲季春月辛亥敘。

Governor Cui of Biling Commandery, Vice Director of the Bureau of Operations, whose wisdom and knowledge are profound and broad and whose elegant talents are refined and pure, composed a preface whose words and purport are marvelous and consummate. Having been fortunate enough to receive and read it, my praise and sigh of admiration are boundless. It is fitting that it be carved onto printing blocks and transmitted imperishably. I have briefly taken up the brush at the end of the volume, wishing to help give it wings so that it may circulate. Preface written on the xinhai day in the third month of spring in the jiazi year of the Tiansheng era (1024 CE).
