The Buddhapiṭaka-sūtra says: Monastics should single-mindedly practice the Path and act in accord with the Dharma, not thinking of clothing, food, or any needs. From among the hundreds of thousands of myriads of koṭis of portions of the merit of the Tathāgata's white curl mark (ūrṇā-lakṣaṇa), one portion was left to support all disciples of the final age, and even they cannot exhaust it. ○ The Bodhisattvacaryā Sūtra says: When the Buddha traveled from the country of Magadha to Vaiśālī, the people of the two countries, together with devas, nāgas, and spirits, jointly offered three thousand jeweled canopies to the Buddha. The Buddha accepted two thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine canopies, declining only a single canopy. The Buddha said: 'I preserve this to cover and protect my disciples in future ages, so that they may obtain offerings.'
