The Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra states: "One who lacks the practice of benefiting oneself and benefiting others is called a lower person. One who benefits oneself but does not benefit others is called a middling person. One who possesses both benefits is called a superior person (a superior person is endowed with both benefits, has a great mind and great practice, and is also called a great person [mahāsattva])."
