Suddenly (欻爾: the first character is pronounced *hui* + *lü* in fanqie. The *Cang Jie pian* states: “*Xū* means rising up abruptly.” *Cù* (猝) is pronounced *cun* + *ne* in fanqie. Xue Zong states: “*Xū* means suddenly.” The *Shuowen jiezi* states: “To be blown up by something; it is composed of the radical *qiàn* (to blow/yawn) with *yán* as phonetic.”)
