Launching and leading forward (發引: the first character is pronounced *fan* + *ba* in fanqie. The *Shuowen jiezi* states: “The discharge of shooting an arrow; it is composed of *gōng* (bow), *shū* (halberd), and *bō* (two feet flared), representing the sound of an arrow being discharged.” *Fān* is pronounced *fa* + *ban* in fanqie; *shè* (䠶) is pronounced *she* + *zhe* in fanqie; *shū* is pronounced *shu*; *bō* is pronounced *pu* + *mo* in fanqie. The second character, *yǐn*, is pronounced *yin* + *yin* in fanqie; it is composed of *gōng* (bow) and *rén* (person), or written with the full graph for person as 𢎢. The *Shuowen jiezi* states: “To draw a bow.”)
