Splitting a single hair (㭊一毛: the first character is pronounced *xing* + *yi* in fanqie. The *Guangya* states: “*Xī* means to divide.” The *Shuowen jiezi* states: “To split wood; it is composed of *mù* (wood) and *piàn* (slice).” It is also written with *jīn* (axe) as 析).
