隻千古（征亦反說文一枚也桂苑珠藂單也群書字要隻字從隹隹鳥也從叉叉手也手持一鳥為隻象形字經文或從又誤也）。

Sole throughout antiquity [隻千古] (zheng-yi fan [zhī]; Shuowen: "A single item." Guiyuan zhucan: "Single." Qunshu zhiyao: "The character zhi [隻] is composed of 'short-tailed bird' [隹], which is a bird, and 'claw' [又], which is a hand; a hand holding one bird is a single [隻], a pictographic character; in the sutra text it is sometimes written with 'again' [又], which is an error").
