舍衛國(梵語訛也案十二遊經義譯云無物不有國或云舍婆提城或言捨羅婆悉帝夜城並訛也正梵音云室羅伐悉底國此譯云聞者城法鏡經譯云聞物國又善見律云舍衛者人名也舍衛先居此地時有國王見其地好心生愛樂舍衛遂請王住王即許之因以其名而為國號又國云多有國諸國珍奇多歸此國故以為名也)。

Country of Śrāvastī (舍衛國: a Sanskrit corruption; according to the translation by meaning in the Shi'er you jing, it is called the country where nothing is lacking; some say the city of Shepotian, or the city of Sheluopoxidieye, both of which are corruptions; the correct Sanskrit sound is Śrāvastī-deśa, which is translated here as the City of the Hearer; the Fajing jing translates it as the Country of Hearing Things; moreover, the Samantapāsādikā says that Shewei was a person's name: Shewei lived in this land first, and when a king saw that the land was delightful and loved it, Shewei invited the king to dwell there, and the king agreed, so it was named after him; another explanation says it means 'Country of Abundance', because the treasures of various countries mostly converge in this land, hence the name).
