嚬慼 (the upper character is 毘 + 寅 fanqie. The Kaosheng says: '嚬 means melancholy (懣, pronounced 悶).' The character dictionary says: '嚬𡂔 means knitting the brows.' The Shuowen says: 'Those wading across water knit their brows (嚬𡂔).' Gu Yewang says: 'To examine it, 嚬𡂔 is the appearance of sorrow, brooding, and unhappiness.' The Shuowen standard form takes 卑 and 瀕. Today's clerical script abbreviates it, reducing 涉 to 步, and further dropping 卑 to write it with 口 as 嚬, which is an abbreviated form. The lower character is 酒 + 育 fanqie. The Kaosheng says: '𡂔 means 嚬.' The Shangshu says: 'Sighing and deeply ashamed.' Or with 口 as 㗤, which is the same. Or with 目 as 𥉷, which is an ancient character. The scripture text has it with 足 as 蹙, which is not the original character).
